Emperor Norcemo and General Vatet Rho are brothers descended from the ancient humanoid patriarch, Zembaku, who married Themis, a nymph from planet Dubhe, making her the great matriarch of all humanoids.
Shortly after Zembaku’s marriage to Themis, he began a series of liaisons with mortal women all over the universe, especially on his favorite planet, Earth, which resulted in the creation of second-generation half-humanoids. Finally, he fell in love with his beloved earthly liaison, Queen Abena, leader of a small Akan village in northern Ghana.
The mighty Ashanti Empire had just conquered Queen Abena’s village, looking to expand their empire by bringing northern territories under the Ashanti influence and moving them south toward the coast. But Zembaku knew moving her village south to Kumasi, along the Gold Coast, would risk leading them directly into a catastrophe. So he encouraged the queen not to go south but to take her people north across the Sahel Desert into Mali, West Africa.
After taking Zembaku’s advice, Queen Abena led her village up the Niger River north to Mali, where they thrived under the leadership of Mansa Musa, a devout Muslim who could read and write Arabic. He attempted to make Islam the faith of the nobility, but the queen protested, so he kept to the imperial tradition of not forcing it on the public. However, he soon became interested in the scholarly city of Timbuktu, where he transformed Sankore from an informal school into an outstanding Islamic university that he peaceably annexed to the Mali Empire. As a result, Queen Abena and her people became highly educated and part of the Mali Empire. Today, the queen’s half-humanoid descendants have migrated worldwide, unaware of their superpowers.
