SEPTEMBER 2026
Hi Guys!
I hope you had a great Summer. The Kente Comics Team had a fantastic time at DreamCon 2026 in July. Lines at the Houston Convention Center wrapped around the building multiple times. What an amazing crowd! I met some of my favorite comic creators, including Frederick Littles from Wise Acre Comics, who is expanding his brand into something great; team members from Konkret Comics, another company doing great things with youth; and Mr. Tony Weaver Jr. himself. Tony is an amazing writer, educator, media creator, and YouTuber who donates books to kids at underfunded schools and libraries. Kids are losing access to books, and youth reading levels are at an all-time low. Without access to books, many kids won’t catch up. Thirty-five percent of schools in the U.S. don’t have librarians. The number of children who enjoy reading is the lowest it’s been in 20 years. So kudos to Tony for doing a fine job helping children read. Here are some photos of a few cosplayers and customers who stopped by our booth:

ONYX & MERAK Dark Side of Xiratha.
On the Dark Side of planet Xiratha, deep within the Ursa Galaxy, a feared bounty hunter known as ONYX patrols the skies aboard his massive dragon, Merak. Onyx’s reputation spans the Ursa Galaxy. He is a humanoid who can emit sonar when he speaks. His primary powers stem from his right hand, which shoots flames. His armor is made of golden dragon scales that complement his dark complexion. His skin grows very hot and glows bright red, like a supernova, when he uses his powers. Criminals know his name and fear it as he hunts ruthless warlords, dismantles powerful crime syndicates, captures outlaws others dare not pursue, and vanishes before their armies can retaliate. But Onyx is more than a bounty hunter. He is royalty.
Born a prince of Xiratha’s Dark Side, Onyx turned to bounty hunting after his mother mysteriously disappeared. Her disappearance has plagued him ever since. Every bounty he accepts gives him another reason to travel to far-off planets, criminal strongholds, and dangerous corners of the universe. To the galaxy, Onyx hunts criminals for justice and reward. But behind every mission lies a far more personal quest. He is searching for his mother. And no matter how many planets he must cross, how many criminal empires he must destroy, or how many enemies stand in his way, Onyx will never stop searching until he discovers what happened to her.
The 22-page comic will be $10.00 on Kickstarter.com from November 1-30, 2026.
